Save Your Skin – Skin Cancer
About our Partners

SAVE YOUR SKIN opted to work with RAFT and Fake Bake to educate young people about the dangers of skin cancer. We supported and helped RAFT raise funds for their vital research into skin cancer in January 2009. Fake Bake use their celebrity contacts and media influence to raise awareness of the SAVE YOUR SKIN campaign and raise funds for RAFT.

ABOUT RAFT

The Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust – is an award winning skin research and skin cancer charity. They do valuable research into many areas of serious skin complaints and conditions and are also increasingly interested in research into skin cancer. They are particularly concerned about the rate of growth of this type of cancer among young people, and want to reach young people through their work and through the SAVE YOUR SKIN campaign. As well as helping with campaigns like ours, RAFT use their research about skin cancer to inform sun screen manufacturers of the best way to formulate their products to improve skin protection – this will help us all protect our skin in the future, too.

SAVE YOUR SKIN are delighted to be associated with RAFT and we hope we can work together to spread our message to everyone, particularly young people, about excessive and unprotected sun exposure and the use of sunbeds. Together, we hope to educate the public, and RAFT’s expertise in skin cancer research will help us to give unbiased information that will help everyone be more aware of skin cancer. We also want to assist RAFT to enable them to raise funds for their vital research work.

RAFT’s CEO Leonor Stjepic says:

“I am absolutely delighted that RAFT has been selected as the chosen charity. We support the aims of the campaign and fundraising... it will help us to do more research into this area. The incidence of malignant melanoma has quadrupled since 1975 and is now the second most common cancer in young people aged 15-34 so there is urgent need for us to make progress.”

Everyone at SAVE YOUR SKIN is proud to be working alongside RAFT to educate everyone about skin cancer, and to get the message out there that it is never too early to start looking after your skin. Love your skin type, learn how to care for it in the sun, and you can look forward to more healthy skin both now and in the future.

ABOUT FAKE BAKE

Fake Bake is the UK’s leading salon professional self tan and spray tan brand.

Fake Bake constantly strives to improve their sunless tanning products, making them ever safer.  Recently, their in-house laboratories have used advanced botanical ingredients to remove parabens (parabens have been linked to some forms of cancer) and artificial preservatives whilst introducing added skincare benefits like anti ageing, anti cellulite and anti oxidants, and developed products tailored for specific skin tones.

Global CEO of Fake Bake (Business Woman of the Year) Sandra McClumpha says:

“I founded SAVE YOUR SKIN when a close member of my family was diagnosed with skin cancer, having ‘binged’ on sun beds for a number of years. I researched the causes of skin cancer and found that the highest risks are attributed to tanning in childhood. This, coupled with the increasing trend in children using sun beds, I decided I had to do something about it.”

Fake Bake are endeavouring to expand the SAVE YOUR SKIN campaign reach by uniting with the CPHVA (Community Practitioners’ and Health Visitors’ Association). Discussions include SAVE YOUR SKIN posters and leaflets being issued to school and district nurses and community health visitors.

Fake Bake and the CPHVA’s aim to have a mandatory sun awareness and skin cancer prevention manual in every secondary school and higher education establishment by summer 2010.

Fake Bake and SAVE YOUR SKIN are currently trying to petition the government to ban the use of non-staffed coin operated sun bed tanning salons.
